Summer Workshop Throwback: Sing, Dance & Flip with D FOR DANCE! 🌟

What a lovely afternoon we had at our very first Sing β€’ Dance β€’ Flip Summer Workshop! πŸ’ƒπŸŽ€πŸ€Έ

It was an afternoon full of movement, music, laughter and plenty of opportunities for our young dancers to try something new. We had a small group this time, which meant we could give everyone lots of individual attention and really enjoy the activities together.

πŸ’ƒ Breaking the Ice with Our Own Dance Poses

We started with a fun ice-breaking game to get everyone comfortable and introduce ourselves.

Each dancer had to come up with their own free pose and say their name, creating our own little collection of dance poses!

It was a simple activity, but it was a great way to get everyone moving, being creative and learning each other’s names. ✨

🀸 Freeze… But Make It Tricky!

We then turned our warm-up into a game!

We placed different hand and foot spots around the floor. When the music was playing, everyone could move around β€” but when the music stopped, they had to quickly find a spot and freeze.

Sounds easy, right?

Not quite! πŸ˜†

Some of the challenges included:

🦡 Standing on one leg
πŸ™Œ Putting our hands on the floor
🀸 Holding an awkward stretching position
πŸ’ͺ Finding different ways to balance and freeze

There were plenty of laughs as everyone tried to hold their positions without falling over!

πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ Tumbling & Acro Time

Of course, we couldn’t have a Sing β€’ Dance β€’ Flip workshop without some flipping!

We headed onto the mats to practise some tumbling skills, including:

✨ Handstands
✨ Cartwheels
✨ Aerials
✨ Other tumbling tricks

Everyone was encouraged to work at a level that felt right for them, with a focus on safe technique and having fun while developing their skills.

We also had a go at bridge/table-top walking races β€” which turned out to be much harder (and funnier!) than it sounds! πŸ˜‚

🎀 Learning to Sing

Then it was time to switch from tumbling to singing!

A huge thank you to Miss Katy, who led our singing and musical theatre session. πŸ’›

The dancers learnt some of the songs from 9 to 5: The Musical, practising their singing, listening to the music and learning how to perform together.

It was lovely to see everyone become more confident using their voices as well as their bodies. 🎢

πŸ’ƒ From 9 to 5… to the Stage!

After learning the song, the dancers put their singing together with movement and learnt a short β€œ9 to 5” musical theatre routine.

They worked on the choreography, musicality and performance skills.

We finished the workshop with our very own mini showcase for parents, giving everyone the chance to perform what they had learnt.

It was wonderful to see the dancers put everything together β€” singing, dancing, performance and confidence all in one!

πŸ’› Thank You, Miss Katy!

A very special thank you to Miss Katy for joining us and delivering such a fun and inspiring workshop.

We loved seeing the dancers explore musical theatre, try new skills and, most importantly, enjoy themselves.

And thank you to all the dancers and families who joined our first summer workshop. We hope you had as much fun as we did! 🌟
